My conputer is completely black, the screen has no gui, and all that comes up is an error saying that api-ms-win-core-localregistry-l1-1-0.dll was not found, and now it dosent let me do anything! I cant even use safe mode! Please help! I was trying to install 3rd party themes on my vista pc, and i had to edit some .dll files, and than this error came up! I would appreciate the most help i could get!!!!!!

This forum is probably not the best place to get help with windows problems. Check some of the windows fan forums.

Yea it's a little rough getting Windows help on a Apple majority site. Maybe someone will find help but not fast enough most likely.

Last time I messed with themes on my Windows machine(no longer have) I didn't have to mess with any DLL files.

Very odd, editing a .dll. I've edited almost everything else , but never ever a .dll! DLLs are used everywhere by almost everything. Who knows what kinds of damage were done. It's time for a restore.

Try running a repair from the windows install disk but you might have to reinstall.
    Try avoiding editing system files.

If you made back ups of the .dll files then you may be able to get in and replace them with the recovery console or a Linux live cd/DVD. That's is only if you made backups or can get the files from the install cd or net.

Gotta love LiveCDs. I use them all the time on machines I repair to get users documents if they were not wiped out during whatever they did to break them.

Yeah they are nice that's for sure. Another thing I couldn't do without for getting data recovered is an usb external hdd. A live cd/dvd and an ext hdd (formated to fat32/ntfs so windows can read it if thats what you need) can be a life saver in data recovery.
