I just used the sticky no questions asked its very easy just follow it step by step and there is no way you can possibly mess it up. THey have pictures too!

you don't need to unlock it....don't unless it's necessary, it will save you trouble later when trying to update and all that.

which programs are best are all a matter of opinion. personally, i was one of the early buyers and so i used the jailbreak method and then installed ssh on my phone, and that's how i move pictures and ringtones and all that on and off my phone, as well as installer.app.

but, as the others said, read through the guides and see which one seems easiest. there are always folks on here willing to lend a hand...perhaps just as many as there are that will just say "read the guides" or "i answered this in another thread" lol

Ibrickr couldent make it any easier.

Just follow this step WORD BY WORD TO THE DOT and you cant mess up. You could do it manually dragging files creating folder but using the command list makes it stupid proof http://www.modmyi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1107

Once you have done that just run ibrickr and off of ibrickr you can get the 3d party apps Nes ringtones change icons all that good stuff.
