Default Changing Slider Text in Windows?

I found a post about doing this, but it mainly covered people using an apple. nevertheless, i tried to follow the steps, but i didnt get very far. i know the file that contains this info, ("SpringBoard.strings" correct me if i am wrong), but i do not know how to edit it. i tried once but the result was the slider saying 'Away_Lock...', which is not what i had typed. help please
