using ifunbox to transfer music to iPhone
My iPhone 4 is not jailbroken, but I am trying to transfer music to it with iFunbox. I was using Media Monkey (not currently compatible with my phone and OS), CopyTrans (not currently comp. either - "read-only" for iphone 4) and Sharepod (limited functionality - had comp. issues).
The problem is: either I don't know what I am doing, or iFunbox isn't working. I can see the contents of the phone with no problem, but when I add music files to any reasonable folder they don't get transferred to the phone. They show up in the iFunbox pane - and a temp file is created on the desktop - but not on the phone. I have several questions.
1) Do I need to be jailbroken to add music using iFunbox.
2) Which folder in the iFunbox tree should I put the music in?
3) Are there any manuals/instructions available (I have searched the developer's website, Google and many forums)?
I am sorry if this is answered somewhere else - I did look through all the applicable forums and didn't see the answers to my questions.
Any help would be appreciated.

I believe you'll need access to the deeper files. I know photos can be done this way but I never tried music so I don't know where they go. All I do know is you'll need to jailbreak your device to access the root files where photos and vids go.
Edit: I forgot to explain why. You'll notice on iFunBox's website, they tell you no jailbreak needed; however, they also tell you to install afc2add if jailbroken. This file is from Cydia. You need afc2add to access root files with iFunBox.Last edited by i.Annie; 10-28-2010 at 11:20 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

It says max compatibility for iPhone is to 4.0. What about for those on 4.0.x and 4.1?

I hate to say... But isn't this piracy? Those music files weren't gotten/paid for by the OP so I may be wrong but I'm just saying...

Not necessarily. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. You could very well rip a CD you purchased and have music files not from iTunes. I wouldn't say I don't agree with you though but piracy wasn't actually mentioned so...benefit of the doubt

Easiest way I find (mac or windows) is to point iTunes to where your mucus is stored on the computer (file, add folders to library) & then in iTunes sync the selective tunes... No jailbreak required & I've never had issues this way personally.

There are a few differences between something like iFunbox or iExplorer vs. WinSCP or Cyberduck. I use Cyberduck when I have wifi and iExplorer when I don't. But of course iExplorer doesn't do some of the things I want that Cyberduck can do. Well I guess what I'm saying is there are differences and it isn't fair to say one is better than the other as they both tend to serve identical purposes, but one has one feature where the other has another which can limit a user.
