have i received a virus/bug?
I had a text message yesterday, it had no number from sender and the text was blank. Then my phone returned to the icon screen within 3 seconds. Now I can't send or read a text message. When message comes in it is blank and goes of after 3 seconds.
Anybody knows what has happened?
I am subscribed to unlimited text from orange!!
thanks

I'm curious if you ever found out what was going on. Your problem does not fit with any description of a known iPhone virus I've ever read about. On platforms like OSX, *nix, and the iPhone OS it's not that easy to get a virus. You have to actually install/compile code containing the virus but most repositories are careful to screen software before hosting it.
You would not get a virus on the iPhone just be reading a text message. An MMS message possibly, but the iPhone doesn't do MMS :-PLast edited by navalynt; 09-12-2008 at 01:08 AM.

MMS requires data download. Text can be sent via circuit switched or GPRS but it's still just text, no extra file is executed or displayed. The most harm I could see a text message ever doing is having something embedded in the message header which triggers malicious code already residing on your device. The key there being malicious code already running so the text message itself still would not have a virus in it.

First question is, did you change your notifier windows using customize or some other theme? It sounds like the text box and texting ability crashed, not a virus.
And with the embedded text Idea that includes text to execute an already installed virus needing activation, (seems logical) so I'd check any apps installed from a rather unknown source that uses your phone number for an account or to install. (which I cant think of any, other than say Facebook. they have ads that are for different apps and such that require your phone number and charge to your phone bill)

Hi, thank you for replying. I did not install or changed anything on the phone. All i did was opened the text message and it was blank, then went of, so i can't reply or read. it just goes back to the icon screen. I have done factory reset, but still the same. Still puzzled and none the wiser i'm afraid.
