Activating iphone without AT&T sim

I've tried the guide using the wireless and prefs: / jailbreakme.com fix but after doing it the phone does not restart and bypass activation.

I'm in UK and have a US iphone restored to 1.0.2, not activated or unlocked. And i'm using windows vista.

Any further help, or talking me through it would be appreciated.

you have to be on 1.1.1 to do the jailbreak me trick
so download the 1.1.1 update store it on your comp then go into itunes and press update while holding shift(mac) or alt (windows)
and select it then try jailbreak me
