Post [NOT-FINISHED-GUIDE] To Changing SMS Recived sounds!

I have no idea if this has been done already but it works!

Basically i didnt like the boring standard SMS sounds that came with the iphone so i thought, why cant i change em?. So there i was going though all the files of the iphone with my FTP program, when behold! i came accross what looked like SMS sounds, i downloaded them and played them and my ears were then raped with the sound of that DEFUALT HORN.

So now i know where the sounds were, all i need to know now is how to change them and make my own.... i tryed cuting up a small peice of music roughly 5 seconds long in audicity and exported it as a CAF file.. then i gave it the same name as one of the defualts and then deleted the defualt and replaced it with the same named one i made... restarted my iphone and it WORKS! although the name is what it used to be..... but it sounds great!

Basically this is what i did, firstly make a 5 second clip of your sound/song with audicity (YOU MAY WANT TO TURN DOWN THE BASS BEFORE YOU SAVE IT), then export it and make it a CAF... There should be an option under the cancel button, click that and choose from the new promt the CAF file extention.

Next, Save it somewhere like your desktop. Leave it there we will need it later.

Next, FTP into your iphone with your fav FTP program, i use FileZilla (Its easy to use) NOW GO UNDER THIS FOLDER
    /System/Library/Audio/UISounds/
Here you should see alot of stuff but the basic ones you want to change are:
sms-received1.caf (This one is Tri-Tone on your phones sms sounds
sms-received2.caf is Chime, ETC ETC ETC. )
Save this to your Backup folder and copy the name of the DEFUALT IPHONE FILE.

Next, go onto your desktop again and change the name of your small 5 second sound clip to sms-received1 (or what ever number you want to replace it with)

Lastly, Get the sound clip from your desktop and put it into the folder (Make sure you delete the one your going to replace first/Overwrite the file)
    /System/Library/Audio/UISounds/
    and FINALLY Restart your Iphone.

NOW THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE NAME OF THE FILE (e.g Chime) STILL SAYS WHAT IT WAS, CAN ANYONE DO THIS NEXT PART, IT WOULD HELP GREATLY!

    Thanks

you can download customize and put the sounds in var/root/library/customize/audiofiles/*folder*/*sound.aif

replace folder with the sound folder in customize use _ for spaces
ex. SMS Received Sound would be
    var/root/library/customize/audiofiles/SMS_Received_Sound/*Sound.aif

o you have to convert sounds to .aif i dont know if .caf will work but it may

this allows for easy swaping sounds

Thats true rob, I just wanted to say that the received sounds dont work when you actually receive a message though(it just plays the default anyways)...when you send though, the custom sounds work.

Unfortunately, does not work on my Jailbroken iPhone running 1.1.2 (from 1.0.2->1.1.1.->1.1.2.).
