Wifi & Edge someone help pls

Yes i have looked at the FAQs but i need someone just to tell me pls:

I am using VODAFONE PAY AS YOU GO ... can i still get wifi and edge working ??

ALL THESE GUIDES about jailbreak et.al nee some form of internet connection ... how can i try to upgrade and unlock my iphone if i dont have an internet connection ...

Can someone help pls... is it possible to connect to the internet when you sit it in it's little holder (the one you sit in to chrage the battery)

Wifi- Turn Wifi on and selection teh wi-fu accesspoint you wish to connect to

Edge - When a iPhone is Unlocked and not using the AT&T service a new menu selection appears for EDGE settings just input your providers info for edge settings and works.
