Default Whats the easiest way to change SMS alert?

I tried to change the alert in the customize app, but it didnt work. I was able to change the other alerts no problem, but not the SMS alert. I am really new to this whole modding thing so be gentle. I see people talking about putting the custom alerts in certain system folders. How do you access these folders? Any help would be appreciated.

Upgrade to 1.1.1 and go into settings, sounds, then change the "New Text Message" sound.

Sounds are stored in : /System/Library/Audio/UISounds.

Convert any sound you want to .aiff, then rename the extension to .caf and replace the file you want.

Log onto your phone with SSH (SCP) or use a program like iPhoneBrowser 1.4 or iPhoneList.

    Default quick and dirty

Ok here's a quick and dirty work around for this. Firstly the sound file has to be in a .caf format. An easy way of getting this is by uploading a new sms alert via ibricker; this will convert it and store a copy in your ibricker folder on your computer.

Open your ibricker folder and rename the file to one of the following:
    sms-received1.caf
    sms-received2.caf
    sms-received3.caf
    sms-received4.caf
    sms-received4.caf
    sms-received6.caf

then log on to winscp and place the file into:
System/Library/Audio/UISounds (you can make a back up of the original sms-received file if you like)

this will replace the file on your phone with the sound you want. the caveat is that on your phone it will still show up with the name of the original file, i.e. if you replace sms-received4.caf it will still read "Horn" on your phone in settings. but when you select it will play the tone you replaced it with. of course to reverse this just replace the original file in the folder.

    Not pretty but it works.
