just got my iphone

how do i tell what version it is so I can then go ahead and try and unlock it

1. on the phone go to settings>general>about it will have what version u are running.
2. plug it in ur pc and when iTunes begins running it will have a summary of ur phone and it will have your version also.

I tried to jailbreak without activation and now in recovery mode i think (itunes image with cable image)

ok i used ibricker and got it out of recovery

how do i activate?
