any Virgin Iphone 1.1.1 unlocking guides? or help?

Ok I've been looking through the forums a bit and have been searching for something helpful that will allow me to unlock my brand new factory Iphone 1.1.1 firmware to be used with any GSM carrier.

I purchased IphoneSimfree but their instructions are a bit hard to understand.

Also I think the fact that my phone has not even been activated may have something to do with.

I looked through the following threads

but they don't seem to completely relate to my issue. I want to unlock my iphone with iphonesimfree but according to those intructions I'm supposed to downgrade to 1.0.2 and then somehow get AppTapp installed.

I did that but how can I access AppTapp to install any of the other things if my phone is still on the "Activate Iphone" screen? Did I do something wrong? Should I be using an active ATT sim during the process?

mainly I've been reading the README from iPHUC in order to get to the process where I can run iphonesimefree but I got stuck on the final part of step zero. If anyone has been fortunate enough to unlock their Iphone 1.1.1 using IphoneSimfree and would like to share their wisdom I would appreciate it.

Also I may be new here but I would be glad to contribute in any way that I can to the community. I do web design and some graphics work so if someone needs something simple I would be glad to help.

I would but it's too late already. I purchased iphonesimfree so I want to stick with that (no use in not using it and throwing out the $60) also I already began the process and downgraded to 1.0.2 so it's too late to go for your suggestion.

Basically I'm stuck in part 5 of step zero of the jailbreak README
Since the phone is not activated I have no way of installing the SSH app through the apptapp since my phone is still on the "Activate" screen.

How do I get around this?

im having the same problem
however I get passed it by downloading a program called
winstaller, which has a jailbreak, Activate and install application on the easy to use GUI screen, which works absolustely every singl time once you've downgraded.
