    i did the whole process, took like 30 min
    it didnt work

    It's working for me on a jailbroken 1.1.1! Oh man I'm stoked. lol Excellent find!

  6. #5
    Wow, all of a sudden $2 for a ringtone doesn't sound like so much money! If I figure my hourly rate it would seem that there is no way I could ever create my own ringtones fast enough to break even.

    1.0.2 wasn't so bad rolling your own ringtones but 1.1.1 is sucky. This feels a whole lot like doing your own oil changes.

    I have a jailbroken 1.1.1 as well. What folder did you put your stuff in, and did you have to make any changes to get it to work? Mine won't show up.

  9. #7
    Well i am at work so i just looked over the process... just curious... wouldnt that itunes_control folder not be there on a jailbroken iphone? Where would you put those files after that folder isnt there... i just looked it over last night and i dont really remember if i saw it there or not. Good find if this works.... seems like a alot ******** just for free ringtones... damn you 1.1.1!!!!

  10. #8
    okay, now mine shows up, but it still won't play. HELP PLEASE!!

  11. #9
    Ok, I found for mine to have multiple tones, I had to create multiple spoof files, one for each ringtone. I also used WinSCP to move my files to the phone and set all permissions at 755. It's a pain I'll admit, and a seperate guide (which I will try to write) for simplifying the plist editing would be sooooo nice. It's really not that bad though. Give me some time and I'll try to compile a guide for the editing.

    Thumbs up Awesome!
    Works great. Thank you for figuring this out.
    For those of you who have broken out of jail, the folder you want is
    /var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Ringtones .

    I get the following so something is wrong:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN"
    "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>Ringtones</key>
    <dict>
    <key>Custard Pie_Ringtone.m4a</key>
    <dict>
    <key>GUID</key>
    <string>Custard Pie_Ringtone.m4a</string>
    <key>Name</key>
    <string>Custard Pie_Ringtone</string>
    </dict>
    </dict>
    </dict>
    </plist>

    what did you name your other spoof files?? that's where i'm stuck. i can get my ringtones to show up, but only one of them plays

  15. #13
    My guide worked in my initial tests, but it's crapping out though on more than a few ringers. =( I'm pretty sure it's all to do with the .plist file, but I'm not sure enough of what I'm doing to leave my bad advice up.

    note that I think your .m4a file name cannot have spaces in it.

    i perfected a way! i was not using this method, cybergreg showed me a link to have 1.1.1 ringtones.

    this is the location here

    works great except it takes up twice the space so i sync the ringtones and then replace all the m4r's with blank documents and it works!

    example i made a holloween ringtone and my files after synced were:

    VCEW.m4a
    YWHF.m4r

    so i deleted the m4r file and then made a new document named it YWHF.m4r and boom worked perfect!!!

    I can make a ringtone in about 15 seconds with garageband

    Finally, after having my ring tones only to show up and not having any sound, everything is working now.

    so i attempted to put 4 ringtones on there and i can never get all of them to play. i either get only 1 to play or 2 to play, but never all 4. is there a certain way you have to number the spoofs? my 1st song corresponds to spoof, 2nd-spoof4, 3rd-spoof3, 4th-spoof2 (if that makes sense)

    i tried switching the spoofs around and i still get the same result...

    if someone can post their plist, that would be awesome!

    I've got one song I purchased from itunes and 3 custom sounds. They are all working.

    2 of my sounds were encoded with Itunes 7.4.1.2 and would not play.

    I updated my itunes to 7.4.3.1 and now they all work. Dunno it it was the encoding or a fluke, but they all work now. Here's my plist.... (the first one was a purchase via itunes)
