I just finished the process. The first ringtone in my list plays, but the second does not.

One thing i found useful is ms xml notepad. its free, and a easy way to check for errors in the xml file. I had about 3 different errors before I got if to work.

OK, I added a third. The first two play, but the last does not. So, it could be:
1) the order
2) the file name length. The two that work are 7 characters, the one that does not is 10.
3) phase of the moon.

GOT IT!!!! Its the length of the f__king name. Not to waste alot of time testing, I made all names 7 characters!!!!! Now all 3 play fine.

I can't get my ringtones to play either. They appear in the list though...
using a non-jailbreaked 1.1.1 with itunes7.4.3.1 to encode AAC...

if anybody finds a way, please post

I did everything i was suppose to do.....but not all my ringtones play....9 out of 15 play.....has anybody found a fix for this??

i want my other 6 to play!!!
9 is simply not enough >_<!!!

So if I hear you correctly youre saying it has to be like this: thedog22.m4a or this: like.m4a?

yes. the name of the original '3rd' none-playing ringtone was "apyeahbaby". I renamed it to "yaababy", changed the ringtone.plist, and it worked!!!! Im sure you can use different lengths besides 7, but im not going to try all combinations at the moment. I'll take this as a small victory over Apple and leave it as that.

Is this necessary for the dummy file as well?

i have some less than 7 and more thn 7 and they work

but the other ones just dont

and i tried 7 characters on those and it still didnt play :'(

EDIT: i renamed all the files to 7 characters even the spoof ones and most of them stopped working =/

did you make sure that you changed the names in the ringtone.plist. I now have 10 custom ringtones added and all work on two different iphones. I also keep the spoof file the same name (except for the extension). Addisionally, I keep the name in the "name" key the same as the file.

I also renamed my test file back to its original name (and changed the ringtone.plist), and it went back to non-working. the process is working on my son's and my iphone, each have loaded 10 ringtones, each have a different 10. One thing is that I rename the file before converting, just in case the name is embedded in the acc file.

yes thats where i changed it first in the plist and then went along and renamed thme in my phone

but i went back to the settings as i was before and have my 9 ringtones back but still those other 6 wont play =/

does anyone know if this will work on 1.0.2 (im testing before i update to 1.1.1, no ringtones is realllllly all that is holding me back)?

and what do the spoof files actually have to be called, can they be the same as the .m4a only .m4r, like MATSOD.m4a and MATSOD.m4r??? or does it have to be like MATSOD.m4a and MATSODspoof.m4r???

the spoof can be named anything. I am making mine alike so that i can easily pair them. So far I have 1 out of 2 working! i used the 7 idea... seemed to work for at least one... i wish this method wasnt so problematic and random!
