Hey folks,

New to the community, posting from Christchurch, New Zealand.
Anyways, cracked my iphone, added a ringtone or two, added some NES games and had a little look around!

Thanks heaps for the info provided here!

Anyways my situation requires i have mobile data roaming turned off and use the Wifi for geting my hookup of online content for free.(exorbitant data cap plans here).

To boil it down, im looking at using skype on the iphone. i know there is some stuff there to do so, but has anyone actually worked with this?

I dont know why we should pay to use the SKYPE app for the iphone, the service is free and it should remain free with a option to donate to the developers!

I personally use im+ skype program. It works very well when calling out. The only problem I have is receiving calls but im'd developer to get a solution just now. Overall great and easy program. Also not so expensive for an unlimited program with free updates is how I look at it. And Skype is not free!!! Unless you are chatting to only skype people in your country while they are at home... Skype is starting to suck in my opinion.

Hey TechGirl,

For each his own, for me, that's all I need it for to chat with my parents and family & friends on skype, I'm not looking to skypeout (i think thats the right term) calling landlines and mobile fones... I just want to be able to skype call my friends from my iphone to their computer or wifi devices. One thing that I dont understand is, why does this SKYPE APP IM+ require a phone number and does not allow you to do skype to skype calls... ??? check out my snapshot.

Pallavt: This service that you found is pretty much the only SKYPE app... and there is a subscription.

BTW i just read somewhere, I can't even remember the site.. I closed it down by accident!

iPhone is going to come up with a 3G cam technology on the iphone in the next 6 months, so this is why the iPhone hasn't really allowed SKYPE or any other competitors to set up an app or something like that.

So i guess we'll see what will happen in the summertime!
