best IM app

Iphone 3g, jailbroken, 3.1.2,

I want to get rid of my Text msg...I wud still have internet on my iphone.....but I need an IM app....
that will alert me when I recieve a msg, even when the phone is in stand-by

Also, this app, if it requires to turn on NOTIFICATIONS, must not eat away my battery life
