SMSD for iPhone 1.1.4 Windows Machines
Hi guys,
Here is a nice tutorial for all the iPhone lovers who have Firmware 1.1.4 running on their mini machines(iPhones) and who have used ZiPhone 2.5 to do it all.
SMSD is an amazing application which enables u to do a lot of stuff with ur messaging feature of iPhone. For features check the following link:
http://amrut.joshi.googlepages.com/
Ok now this tutorial is for people who are really unaware of most of the technical stuff.
What all u need:
1.iPhone 1.1.4 jailbroken
2.WinSCP
3.SMSDBeta1 release u can download this from the link above.
4.wifi connection.
Steps:
1. On ur Iphone go to Installer and search for Services App......install it source is : Ste Packaging .
2. Again on ur iPhone search for OpenSSH its again from Ste install this.
3. Enable ur wifi connection and SSH on ur iPhone ,check out the ip assigned to ur iPhone .
4. Also install SMSD by searching in the installer again and install it its again from Ste and also this will be of the version 0.2.1
5. Download WinSCP and install it and download the SMSD-v0.2.3beta1.zip file on ur WIndows mAchine.
6.After this open the winscp on ur Windows machine.
On the screen prompted U enter HostName as the ip address of ur iPhone Username : root and password :alpine do not mess with other settings leave them as they are.
7.Click login.
8. U will be taken to the explorer window.
NOw locate root and search for the applications tab
in this search for SMSD.app
9. on WIndows machine extract the zip which we downloaded.
10. Once u have located the SMSD.app in the WinSCP simply replace the SMSD.app with the SMSD.app from the extracted new beta version.
11. to do this u can simply drag that folder to the winscp folder and say overwrite.
12. Once replaced open the SMSD.app folder in the winscp and select all the files there and right click to go to properties.
on the bottom enter the Octal value as 0755.say ok and done.
13.now disconnect using the option form the Files menu of winscp.
And now restart the iPhone .
that will serve the purpose i guess.
It worked for me should work for u too......

hey guys. I have managed to get SMSd working on 1.1.4 without issue. However the first time i installed there was no need to set oct to full permissions (0755) and all worked. More importantly ALL WORKED PLUS the generic SMS icon was removed from Springboard.
Try as I might I cannot get this to disappear now! I have copied SMSD.app & replaced perms to 0755 and alos done this for MobileSMS.app. And to complete the install and permission set I have also changed the permission in Launch Daemon (<root>/library/Launch Daemon)
BUT STILL (APPLE) SMS ICON SHOWS!!!! Is there anyone out there can provide a step by step, tried and tested route to a complete and successful install of SMSD which REMOVES Apple SMS icon completely???????????
Thanks
P.S - Please no smart so & so say use POOF!

Everyone it is very easy to get this app working perfectly fine.
First add the source http://install.ifon.no
Next go to iFon Norway (1.1.3-4)
Install SMSD (0.2.3 beta1a)
After that, install Ulctil under Utilities.
Lastly go into Ulctil and look for and click on com.amrut.iphone.SMSD and hit load -w
After that the app will pop up with the circle with the amount of new txts you have.
I honestly suggest not useing SMSD as your main SMS program as its still in beta and buggy. I would say keep it for when you wanna forward a txt and what not.
BUT! if you do infact want it as your default SMS messanger go to iFon Norway (1.1.3-4) and install Sette SMSD som standard SMS-applikasjon
If you have any problems please ask away.Last edited by CobraSVT; 05-01-2008 at 09:09 PM.

I had that problem too with the older version...only thing i can suggest is connecting through SSH and editing the file properties.

My SMSD kept crashing after forwarding a message to several people, the message indicating my credit remaining would popup and vibrate, then vibrate several other times, (one for each person i think), after that it would just go to a black screen after i click ignore on the popup. It then crashes, kicks me to springboard and regularly doesn't let me open any other apps. Sometimes it even crashes the phone completely, no springboard scrolling or anything!
Really like the app though, just annoying, we shouldn't need an app for normal phone features.Bought iPhone from Mall at Millenia in Florida, took home to UK and unlocked, currently using o2 SIM card
