New Mobile Gmail Interface!
m.gmail.com
the new gmail web interface is BEAUTIFUL.
all that missing is a notifier.
I know someone out there can write this.
it will be one of the most used apps on the iphone period.
I made a super basic version of a gmail app with the Apper.
Can anyone modify it to include notifications???

If you want this app let it be known!Last edited by ggwarpig; 09-25-2007 at 12:40 PM.

i don't know what everyone's gripe with mail.app is....

re: gripe
It's not so much a 'gripe' with the mail app, it's just that those that are used to using Gmail like it because of it's web based features. we don't use a mail client on our desktop because we like using Gmail on the web. We have all our rules, contacts, etc set up in Gmail. I'm sure both Mail for OS X and the Mail app on the iPhone are great, but there are a lot of people out there that love the Gmail web interface and would prefer to stick to that. Thus the need for a Gmail notifier on the iPhone. I know i can't wait until I can get a Gmail notifier on my iphone.

Excellent! It's a step in the right direction... hopefully a small step toward a real iphone gmail webapp.
Still missing... the ability to tag, or report spam. This is, however, a HUGE improvement over the old Mobile interface on the iPhone.
Add me to the list of people who would like a better Gmail experience on the iPhone. It's not an attack on Mail.app, it's just that Gmail has a lot of features that can't be duplicated through a POP interface. (For instance, having to delete messages twice, once in mail.app and once in Gmail.)

has anyone seen an iphone app that:
1) has notifiers on the icon in springboard
2) is a web app (not native)
if you have please link to it or attach.

i'm pretty sure you won't get a notifier that doesn't run natively...

if the notifier part of the app was native, and the gmail interface itself was web-based it should work. I do not develop apps, but it seems possible for the notifier to subscribe to the "new mail" feed in gmail.
Anyone who has developed something like this care to comment?

I love the interface. At first I thought, "crap, I don't want two mail icons on my home screen", but with rsbt, i can just hide mail.app and move the gmail icon where mail.app was! BRILLIANT!
I currently have a yahoo account that I forward all my gmail to and it pushes it out to my phone. but i play with my phone so much that I'm finding I don't really need the push, and this has all the features of gmail. Very nice.

How come I can't setup gmail with the standard mail.app?
I have no problem with yahoo on Edge...
It said something about cannot connect using SSL
Do I have to use it on WiFi or something?

The G-mail is nice, however, I will probably continue to use the standard app,
Although it needs some work.

Make sure you have POP enabled in Gmail; that being the gmail on your computer.
Login to your account on your computer and Settings is at the top right of the page, then go to Forwarding and POP, and enable POP.
