    Default Iphone 4s unlock question
Hi, i have a iphone 4s locked to the uk vodafone network. Its currently on ios 6.0.1 with modem firmware of 3.0.04 it isnt jailbroken yet (but it will be later this week). My question is what steps do i need to take to unlock the carrier as i am currently with giffgaff (o2 basically)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Im not the original customer (never been on voda) so they arnt very "cooperative"

Ok. Update. It seems depending who you ring at voda depends on the answer you get. Basically im buying a vodafone sim. Topping it up and then voda will send the request to apple to unlock it. Next question. Am i ok jailbreaking it before i get it unlocked or should i wait till its all setup and done?

UPDATE 2: It is not locked to vodafone, it is locked to Orange, who wont do an unlock for anyone but the original owner, and unfortunatly, the person i got it off, isnt. Any ideas.

Ill keep an eye on that as Orange/EE are currently un-available. Will have to stick to 3Gs for now..

You might go ahead and pre-order at 19.99. That's pretty cheap. One time it did come available and the price jumped up considerably. I forgot what it was, but close to being around US$160.

although you can pre-order at 19.99 it does say o#in the text somewhere on the site, that you pay the difference when they have the service back up so whenever you do it, its not gonna end up being 20 lol

I agree, not touching the "pre-order" option.

Ah, you know what they say about if it sounds too good to be true.

Too bad. Unlocking a UK phone is so prohibitively expensive it's probably not even worth it. Almost cheaper just to sell it and buy an AT&T one that can be cheaply factory unlocked.

If it was on Vadofone or O2 its easy, they will do it for you... just buy a cheap PAYG sim for a few quid, top up by 20. Phone em, they take the credit off and send the unlock req. to Apple. 48hours later your sorted, its just Orange who are complete .........! about it haha

Yep, mine is locked to Orange too. I unlocked it with an R-SIM III, but I'm stuck at 5.1.1 because these cards are only good for whatever baseband they're designed for.

my 4s was already on 6.0.1 so i just went ahead with the 6.1.2 update and then jailbroke it. I also have a 3Gs on 6.0.1 (locked to O2 but thats fine as Im with GiffGaff, imo, the best payg option out there)
