Default How to unlock iPhone 5 with 99 xxxx IMEI (on AT&T)
Hi I have an iPhone 5 on AT&T but the IMEI starts with 99.
I have unlocked many phones in the past, but they all started with 01
I use the $2 service on eBay, from Unlock fusion.
Is there any way I can unlock this phone ?
    I don't mind paying a bit more.
    Thanks

it's only because you have att sim card inside. that's all.
you can install vodafone uk sim card inside and you'll see the carrier vodafone uk.

If it is a Verizon iPhone 5 it should already be unlocked.

I just purchased a used iphone and was told it 's unlocked and bought from apple store. IMEI starts with 99000. Can anyone help me to make sure if it s unlocked? Why does IMEI start with 99? Anyone can check the status of my iphone?

    Thank you

iPhone with IMEI starting 99 are Sprint or Verizon iPhones. Would need more info (like what type of iPhone it is) to tell if it is unlocked or not.

Thank you Simon. It 's iphone 5 and the seller told me it's unlocked. I checked the IMEI in some websites and all responded "unlocked" but when I put an att simcard in it, it required to be activated? I don't know why?!!

Also Can I use it overseas, outside USA ? how can I make sure it 's unlocked and I won't have any problem overseas?

If it's Verizon then it is unlocked. If it is Sprint then it could very well still be locked.

I have no clues whether it's from Verizon or Sprint!!! How can I get this information? Is there a website I can refer to make sure?

I usually use here to check the IMEI of the phone, the network and simlock check costs $3 to check but is normally very accurate.

You can also try to check under settings/general/about to see if the carrier comes up there first.

I placed an att simcard in iphon 5, the att network was detected the iphone menu didn't appear because it required activation though wifi or iTunes. Is it normal or something is wrong here?

That's normal if it is locked or the unlock hasn't been activated yet. What does iTunes say or your phone say when you try to activate it with the ATT sim?

I have not tried iTunes but using wifi was not successful !!! Could it be due to the simcard or IOS upgrade?
