Default Which Comes First: Unlock or Jailbreak?
Hi, my wife and I are moving from US to Brasil. She's got an iPhone 3G (GSM, AT&T, model MB046LL, iOS 4.2.1, modem firmware 05.15.04).

This phone hasn't ever been jailbroken or unlocked. We asked AT&T to unlock it, since the original contract is way way past expired. They said "yes."

    Request number: xxxxx
Thank you for contacting AT&T Customer Care about unlocking your iPhone. We have reviewed your request and confirmed that you are eligible to have the requested iPhone unlocked. Please allow 24 hours upon receipt of this notification to complete the unlock. To complete the unlock, simply:

Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
Ensure a SIM card is inserted into your iPhone.
Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit iTunes: Restoring iOS software.
After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.
Additional information on unlocking can be found at iPhone: About unlocking

You may also check the status of your unlock request by clicking the link for AT&T's Device Unlock Status Portal.
I'd also like to jailbreak it. Does it matter which one I do first? Jailbreak or Unlock?

If I unlock it then jailbreak it, the phone will stay unlocked after I jailbreak, right? Or no?

If I jailbreak it then unlock it, the phone will become UNjailbroken, right? I think so. In order to unlock it, I have to restore it (see AT&T's email above).

    Thanks and obrigado!

I would unlock it then jail break. Once they unlock it then it will be unlocked forever no need to worry about your baseband gitting upgraded
