iPhone 3G Questions - restoring & unlocking
My dad gave me his old iPhone 3G (he just bought an iPhone 5) and told me I could sell it and keep the money. It's currently running 4.0.2 and I believe the highest supported iOS is 4.2.1. Its baseband is currently 05.13.04, which can be unlocked with ultrasn0w.
I want to restore the phone to completely wipe it clean, which will also upgrade it to the highest supported iOS. If I do this will the baseband also be updated to something not supported by ultrasn0w? I tried using google to find my answer, but I'm having a hard time. Hopefully someone here will help me out!
I know I can call AT&T and unlock it through them, but I'd much rather jailbreak it and unlock it myself.

What you want is to restore to a custom firmware to preserve this baseband. You can use Snowbreeze : here

Call AT&T. If they unlock it, the unlock will stay for the life of the phone. Jail break unlocks are far inferior to a factory unlock thru Att.
