Help with updating unlocking and jailbreaking

I recently bought an iPhone 3GS and want to update it to 5.1.1 and jailbreak and unlock it. I am running 4.3.3 and baseband 5.16.02. However, when I try to update it i get errors. I dont have the shsh blobs for 5.1.1 because this phone has never run it. I can't unlock this baseband or I would just stay at 4.3.3. I need help!

What is ya baseband? An if ya don't have blobs saved for it you would have to go to 6.0. Unless ya have old bootrom on that phone.

Moving up to 5.1.1 won't give you an ultrasn0w unlockable baseband.

What can I upgrade to to get an unlockable baseband? It's at 5.16.02. If I go to 6 what will it change to?

You can downgrade it if you can install iPad baseband. What's your first five digits of ya serial number.

You could always unlock ya IMEI off of eBay and never have to worry about unlocks anymore b

Don't know if there will be an unlock for that baseband or not. Check on eBay for IMEI unlocks try pretty cheap just make sure they have good feedback.

There hasn't been an ultrasn0w unlock on new basebands in a long time. I concur and just get a full imei unlock. Never have to worry about unlocks from iOS versions again.
