iPhone 3G 4.2.1 Activate Without SIM?

Is this possible? I don't have a SIM card, but I want to use it like an iPod Touch. I tried using redsn0w 0.9.14b2 and selecting to install Cydia and to Deactivate and it still won't let me do anything except make emergency calls. Any help would be appreciated

Um, don't deactivate, you WANT it activated. When it's activated, you can use it as an iPod touch.

Just run redSnow again and activate it

I just ran redsn0w and selected to deactivate it again, so let me retry :P

Also, I switch to 0.9.6rc19 since that's what's in the "Jailbreak Assistant". Let's give it a try...

Now my problem is my Wi-Fi. It's grayed out and says "No Wi-Fi". From what I've read it's either a firmware problem or a hardware problem. I'm going to try a new firmware and see if that works, and if not I'll try the soldering option for the hardware fix.
