I bought an iphone on 28th september 2007 and brought it to outside america. Now i am in dilema after hearing stories of firmware 1.1.1. IS this unlockable or not. How can i find out without activating the phone (as i am outside USA).
If it is unlockable can somebody give me iphone sim free software or point me to some guide to unlocking my software.

Or if you havent activated it at all yet then go into field test mode to check the baseband version..
Slide to make emergency call
then enter *3001#12345#* and hit call
choose Versions and check the firmware version
it should be 03.14.08_G which is 1.0.2 or lower
if it is 04.whatever then its 1.1.1
If it helps I bought a Iphone on 10/02/07 and it was at rev 1.0.2

Or the easiest way.
When you get your phone out of the box, Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the home button for 25 seconds.
If you get an Orange Triangle Saying "Please connect to itunes" You have 1.0.2 or less!
If it shows an image of your USB pointing to the Itunes symbol, you have 1.1.1!
