Default iPhone 3G with 06.15.00 baseband - is it worth unlocking?
I have an old iPhone 3G with the iPad baseband. I could ask AT&T to unlock it, but here's my question: would that baseband work without ultrasn0w?

If it would I might ask for it and then just install the stock iOS, give it to my mother or something like that.

    Thanks.

Yes, it would work without ultrasnow if you got it officially unlocked.
No you would still not be able to install a stock iOS without getting an error.

    Thanks, Simon.

Would I be able to make a custom version that doesn't have to load any of the extra stuff from Cydia, etc? I just want to try to keep that phone as fast as possible...

Ya. When making the custom firmware with pwnage tool or snowbreeze choose expert mode and uncheck Cydia.

Or baseband preservation mode in snowbreeze does the same thing I believe.
