or take my 3gs apart and see what chip it is ,ie ,EE (will work) EF & EH (wont work)?.

If I'm reading it right, it should be fine. I'd like a second opinion though. It being 130, I'm assuming you're referring to the 3rd through 5th digits of your serial number. So it's a week 30 of 2011. You'll brick it if it's week 35 or higher of 2011.
I'd definitely hope someone will give a second opinion to verify what I'm saying is correct, that you can safely use the iPad baseband.

ok so i am going to put the bb 06.15.00 onto it ,the 3gs is already jailbroken has a fw of 4.1 ,now do i just use redsnow the latest version, jailbreak, untick install cydia, and tick install BB instead or is it not that simple..???..

You would want to use the Redsn0w for 4.1 just to be safe. I am not sure how the latest redsn0w would work with older firmware versions, good or bad. I think the version is 0.9.6b2, or somewhere along those lines.
But yeah, don't checkmark jailbreak if it's already jailbroken. All you want to do is checkmark the ipad baseband upgrade option. That's the only thing you should checkmark during this process. Then it should be all done afterwards, install Ultrasn0w in Cydia after to unlock.
You are aware of the side effects of using the iPad baseband, yes?
Edit: I think my instructions were a bit incorrect. The version of redsn0w I suggested does not have the "jailbreak" and "extras" buttons. It just asks you to browse for the ipsw (which in your case will be 4.1) then it'll give you boxes to checkmark. You'll only want to checkmark the iPad bb upgrade when prompted.
