As long as you follow the guide I.Annie kindly posted up for you, you'll be fine! I've gone from 4.1 on iPad basebands to 5.01 without a hitch

Also what about what the OP was asking, I was under the impression this method works for iPhones as well even though the guide says iPod only.

Edit: nvm you answered it lol.
Lol No worries Restoring to a stitched Ipsw in redsn0w leaves the baseband as is, only a stock update through iTunes with a virgin Ipsw un modified will update the baseband

Didn't you want to upgrade? You'd use the SHSHs you want to upgrade to.

You want the 5.0.1 shsh for the 5.0.1 firmware.

Are you using the latest redsn0w & not the one from the link?

    You want redsn0w 0.9.10b6

  8. #27
    ohhh i got redsn0w 0.9.10b8

...Shouldn't 0.9.10b8, which is newer than 10b6, work anyhow.

In case you need this, found something from one of my fellow moderators.

Although SHSH blobs don't matter for squat on the 3GS old bootrom, they're still very useful for getting restores to go through properly...

I'd try this workflow, and see if you get better results.

    1) Use redsn0w to enter Pwned DFU mode (Extras -> Pwned DFU)
    2) Use redsn0w to stitch your already-made custom 5.0.1 IPSW with SHSH blobs for your iPhone (Extras -> SHSH blobs -> Stitch).
SHSH blobs saved by TinyUmbrella are stored in <Main Drive>Documents and Settings\.shsh by default on Windows (these will work).
    3) Open iTunes, restore to the stitched IPSW.

And THAT should do it, if all goes well. Give it a spin.
If you still can't get success, try reading through this thread. iYeow seemed to successfully help someone with a similar situation.

Ok, so now what you want to do is put the phone into DFU mode & then open iTunes & do a manual restore & point it to the custom firmware you now have.

Nah your ok Ok, so you've got your shsh & stitched it to 5.0.1 yeah? So what you should have is the virgin 5.0.1 & the custom 5.0.1 that you stitched with the 5.0.1 shsh blob?

If you have that, then you want to do a manual restore (with the phone in DFU mode) to the custom 5.0.1 as this will leave your baseband (6.15.00) untouched... It'll also sign itself because you'll have stitched it.

1600 is usually an error for when you didn't put it into pwned dfu mode correctly. Try again for pwned dfu.
