How to Install iPad Baseband on iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 5.16.05 Baseband?
Hi, I currently have an iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.0.1 with 5.16.05 baseband that has the new bootrom. I want to unlock it and the only way right now is by upgrading to iPad baseband. If I want to install the iPad baseband, do I have to restore my iPhone to stock firmware first, then rejailbreak?

What are the first 5 digits of serial? If its anything after Week 35 of 2011, it will brick your phone.
And no you just use redsn0w to install cydia & iPad BB

Oops I forgot to include that I'm already untethered jailbroken too with redsn0w. The 1st 5 digits of my serial are 7R946. I believe this means the 46th week of 2009?

Yeah, correct.
So all you have to do now is run redsn0w and install iPad BB. THen you open Cydia and install ultrasn0w 1.2.5.

Yes it worked out fine. All you need to do if you're already jailbroken is to go to Extras in redsn0w, direct it to the stock 5.0.1 IPSW. Once it's been detected, click back, then click jailbreak. Make sure all of the boxes are left empty except for flash iPad baseband. Leave it alone for about 5 minutes. After it's done flashing the iPad baseband, it'll reboot so just wait. Once it has rebooted, go into Cydia and search up 'ultrasn0w,' install it, and it should make you reboot. Then put your SIM card in, and you should be getting service within 90 seconds. I got my service in less than 10 seconds. Also make sure you always disable location services and if you have to restore, restore it with an IPSW that preserves your baseband, or else you'll have to reflash the iPad baseband all over again. Good luck!

I forgot to give out the details:
iPhone 3GS ; iOS 4.3.3 with baseband 5.16.02
old bootrom ; week 43 of 2009
I did jailbreak it and it's nw at iOS 5.0.1 with baseband 5.16.05.
May I know the issue with the location services...guess its the GPS ,correct?
Also I read that, once the device is flashed to ipad bb, it's not revertible. Is it so?

My SN is 88140xxxx. Should I not do the ipad baseband thing? Week 40 2001 right? Just wanted to make sure before I hit the wrong button.

I have a 3gs and serial number 84949******. Will I be able to unlock it using the ipad BB update. I was gonna do it but redsn0w gave me tons of warnings so I wanted to be absolutely sure. Please let me know. BTW it's on FW 5.0.1 and BB 05.16.05 right now. I am using redsn0w 0.9.10b5c for windows. afterwards, i will install ultrasn0w using cydia. let me know if i am following all the steps right. thanks.

You may need to restore it first before you can do this. Restore to 5.0.1. Activate it. Then use redsnow to install cydia and the ipad baseband at the same time.
