Unlock iPhone 3GS with baseband 05.16.05 on 5.0.1

Hi is there a windows guide on how to jailbreak this phone and or do you have to unlock it first. Model number MC133B. Very new to this, so a guide would be a great help. Cheers

It depends on when your phone was manufactured. Anything after week 35 in 2011 cannot use the iPad baseband flash to unlock. This means you have no way to unlock your 3GS if your device was manufactured after week 35. You can check what week with your serial number.

I have come to the end of my contract and O2 will let my unlock the phone to anyone else I want. I then want to jailbreak it.

My details are
Model A1303 | iPhone 3GS (2009)
firmware 5.0.1 * (9A405)
Modem firmware 05.16.05

No, you dont have to unlock to jailbreak. If you want to unlock get O2 to do it. Dont install the iPad baseband.

Right so if O2 unlock the phone and I go to another provider, I will just need to jailbreak. What is the best guide to use.

So I don't have to worry that the Modem firmware is 05.16.05
Also if I jailbreak now and then get O2 to unlock would that be a problem as i have to give a month notice.

If you get O2 to unlock it you dont have to worry about your modem firmware. They officially unlock it for you.

Jailbreaking now shouldnt matter for unlocking with them later.
