need help plz.. iphone stuck on apple logo

hello friends
new here and new to use iphone.
my brother gave me iphone (A1241 16gb white). he erased all the settings etc. now the phone is stucked on apple logo. tried few things which were invain.
googled for this problem also. not been able to find the correct firmware though.
I'll be greatful if this all messed up things gone ok for me.

Put your iphone into recovery mode and restore again.

Was the iPhone jailbroken prior to him handing it down to you? To find the correct model just pop out the sim tray and write down the serial number. Go to the apple online service assistant to find out which model you have. Once you identify the model then you can research other methods of fixing this error. Good luck!

look at the back of the phone. if the model number on the back is in chrome lettering, its a 3GS. else, its a 3G.
