quick question

i'm planning on buying an iphone that i can unlock in two weeks and have a question. If i'm able to get my hands on an older iphone with 1.0.2 on it and i unlock it, is there in the future going to be a way that we can upgrade to 1.1.1 and not have it brick and still be unlocked?

EDIT: caveat - there may never be a completely seamless way to do this, but no doubt there WILL be an unlock for 1.1.1 in the future...
