Is this iPhone 4S unlocked?

Hey all,

Im interested in purchasing a sealed iPhone 4S. Are there any ways to identify that it's factory unlocked from the box?

I've read that if it's an att iphone it will have AT&T on it. I've also read, in terms of GSM based iPhones. Are all iPhones (besides sprint and verison).. just GSM ones that are shipped to the apple store unlocked UNTIL they are activated and scanned at the register to the particular carrier you are choosing? If anyone works @ an apple store and can answer this or knows, I'd appreciate it!

The factory unlocked iPhone 4s is supposed to be released within a week or so in USA.
It is already available in Canada and Australia.

Factory unlocked iPhones have been available in the US since mid November from Apple. That wasn't his question though.
