Default Used Iphone 4 unlock question

I just bought a used Iphone 4. It was already hacked using one of the jailbreak software proggies and has Cydia and other programs installed. I'm trying to use it on my Tmobile account. I cut my SIM and tried to install it. The NO sim error is not showing but it will not make calls.

I read the thread about the modem baseband being 4.10.01 as the firmware is 4.3.3. According to the chart posted here Gevey Sim is my only option. I may have to get another SIM care because I already cut my Tmobile sim down to a mini sim. I was told the Gevey Sim is not currently working. Is this the case and do I have any options?

Also how do I find out what was used to jailbreak this phone by the previous owner?

Gevey sim will unlock for any gsm. You can't find out what jailbreak was used and it isn’t necessary to know.

ok i called the local phone hack store to try to buy a gevey sim. He told me he has 5 of them but the loophole gevey used was closed and the gevey no longer works. Obviously you all would know if it didnt work so you wouldnt have just replied to use it. Is there a particular type of gevey sim i need to find or do any of you know why he said the gevey sims are no longer working?

I called another store locally and he told me that he would gladly sell me the top of the line gevey sim for 45.00 but 70% of his customers complain the phone goes to no service without notice at least once a day and the phone has to go through the "process" again. Are the referring to aftermarket or is this what happens with the gevey sim? Where can i get a gevey sim that doesnt do tgis and works if it exists?

I don't think you are clear iYeow and giyang already said it. If you updated i4 is upgrade to ios5 and the baseband changed then it can't be unlock with Grevy SIM(and if you create custom firmware Ios5 to preserve baseband, Grevy SIM will not work). As what you said in the first post, ios 4.3.3 with base 4.01.01 then yes you can unlock with Grevey Ultra, just order it from AppleBerry, Comfirm it will unlock baseband 4.1.01.

monkeydamnce thanks for the response. I understood what the others were saying about it being able to unlock the phone but apparently there were fake gevy's out there giving trouble and I was basically trying to find out if the genuine gevy sims give the type of trouble of it was the fake ones? No my phone version and baseband is still as above. Your response however steered me to the correct site and I thank you for it. I now have a call in to sales at applenberrry and hopefully they will be able to answer those questions for me about their product but i did learn more from their FAQ page. Again thanks for your response and help.

I did read at applenberry's site that the phone canot have custom firmware on it. I'm not sure if the jailbreak software it has on it now is considered custom and will have to find that out when they call me back.

You can still unlock Gevey Sim if you preserve your 04.10.00 bb either at IOS 4.xx or IOs 5.0. But if you have updated your bb to 04.11.00, then you are locked out.

So what is your current baseband ?
To secure yourself, you should run ifaith and dump your shsh onto your desktop so you can always restore back to the firmware if you don't have any shsh stored with cydia.

cmb7684... I have iPhone 4 on BB 04.10.01 and IOS 5. I had a tough times getting it unlock with Gevey Pro and Ultra, but eventually I found a way to make them work. Even if you buy an Ultra, the automatic procedure doesn't work on IOS 5, so you have to go through the manual method. I bought the Pro from Amazon, so I don't know if it's genuine, but the Ultra I bought it from Applenberry. The Pro is a little easier to unlock on IOS 5, and it doesn't periodically cycle through No Service/Searching/. However, the signal strength is not as strong as the Ultra.

For the Ultra, it's a touch harder to unlock, and occasionally it cycles through No Service/Searching to re-establish cellular connection (could be because of automatic process that it was designed for). On the other hand, signal strength displays stronger than the Pro. I didn't test to see while cycling calls would get drop or unable to make. I chose to use the Pro to avoid the headache.

Now for the unlocking process, because there are so many flavors of Gevey, there is no one method that would work for all. Thus, I had to spend a lot of time to experiment with mine. I have noticed that there are two key factors in the procedure.
First, after a reboot the Gevey message must appear. From reading other people's methods, there are possible ways: a) Automatic (nice) b) Manually turn it on by Setting/Phone/Sim Application c) Insert Gevey SIM after the reboot (both of mine are this way)

Second, I must complete dialing 112 and turn on Airplane Mode before the "No SIM Installed" message appears. On the Ultra, I have about 12 seconds to do this, so timing is very critical.

Note: 3G needs to be off, cellular data and data roaming must be On. Especially, data roaming must be On before I begin the unlock procedure. Sometimes, IOS 5 would default data roaming to off after a reboot, so I had to turn it on and reboot a few times until it stays on automatically. Here is the method that works for both of my Gevey:

    1. While iPhone is on, remove Gevey/SIM (let it hang out at least half way on the slot)
    2. Power + Home to reboot
    3. After iPhone is on, insert Gevey/SIM
    4. iPhone toggles from No Sim, No Service, Searching then Gevey message appears
    5. Hit Accept then wait for No Service
    6. After No Service, wait for 4 seconds, dial 112 then end call in 2 seconds. (Note: if I dial 112 too soon, I would get a failed call then I have to repeat the process all over)
    7. Turn Airplane Mode on then wait for "No SIM Installed" message. (Note: if I turn Airplane Mode on after or very close to when the msg popups, I have to repeat the process all over. Timing is critical here)
    8. Click on OK ("No SIM Installed" msg)
    9. Turn Airplane Mode off
    10. Two messages would pop up, click on OK
    11. iPhone will cycle through No Service/Searching then it would connect to T-mobile. (Note: with Pro, sometimes it may cycle through twice).
