guys i am having a weird problem with an iphone 3gs.
my friend's iphone 3gs was locked to three australia. day before yesterday i unlocked it installing ipad baseband with ios5. today somehow he convinced three australia to network his iphone 3gs and three australia sent him a sms to restore to get official unlock and he did it. after that the phone is stuck at activation screen. then he brought the phone to me and i jailbroke it and hactivated it and tried a sim card. but the phone couldnt get any network and stuck at searching. then i installed ultrasn0w and still no network. then i flashed with official ios5 again and again stuck on activation screen.
If it has the iPad baseband and you restored to 5.0 official then your baseband is in an unstable state. You need to use redsnow 0.9.9b7b to reinstall the ipad baseband onto it. After that you will need to restore to a custom 5.0 firmware made with either snowbreeze or pwnage tool. Because you have the iPad baseband you will need to restore to custom firmware all the time now, even if it is officially unlocked.
When making the custom firmware, if you choose snowbreeze, make sure you do NOT activate the custom firmware. You need to let iTunes activate it after the custom restore. It is a tethered jailbreak on 5.0 but if you don't touch cydia after the restore you will be fine and can reboot normally as you should not need ultrasnow to unlock anymore.
HI, I have same problem as him, and I am now to the point where I need to ReFlash my 6.15.00 baseband with redsn0w.
I choose 5.0 firmware even tho im on 5.0.1 and I do install ipad baseband. When it runs it gets to the pineapple screen then get stuck at "flashing baseband (don't interrupt" for 2 mins then crashes!
So had the same problem where my Cousins iPhone 3GS was unlocked then he bricked it. Since I was new to the unlock and he had someone else do it I had no clue what was done. Found out about the official unlock called ATT and was approved. Went to restore it normally through iTunes and it would go through but not recognize any SIM cards whatsoever. Figured out that whoever unlocked it previously had updated to the iPad baseband which is irreversible. Was tinkering around with SAM to no avail. Finally figured it out...
A. Restore with current 5.1.1 through iTunes
B. Run Redsn0w (currently used 0.9.11b4)
C. Make sure Install Cydia, Install iPad baseband, and Deactivate are all checked. let process complete and do not unplug.
D. Make sure SIM Card is installed then connect to iTunes and let it activate.
Hope this helps!
