Read this forum sir. Downgrade to 4.2.1 looking at the 3GS downgrade guide. Jailbreak/flash iPad baseband. DL Ultrasn0w using Cydia, unlock.

Jailbreak easily at jailbreakme.com
Then unlock by installing repo666.ultrasn0w.com in Cydia
You can find it under manage/sources

iYeow,
I followed all the steps and don't see anychanges on my iphone.. cydia is installed but doesn't come up..
do I need to downgrade to 4.2.1?
tried restoring to 4.2.1 and getting and 1394 error.
Added "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com" to the hosts file and it still doesn't help.Last edited by jaado; 10-31-2011 at 10:44 AM.

You cannot restore to 4.2.1 unless you have the blob saved but you can resstore to 4.1 , jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.6b8 or Limera1n.
Run redsn0w 0.9.6b8 again to install ipad bb to unlock with ultrasn0w.

tried to restore it to 4.1 from itunes and I keep getting the 1394 error. Do I need to download tinyUmbrella and try to restore it from there?

Point your hosts file back to apple server for 4.1 restore by running tu , adv and uncheck : set hosts file to cydia , close it and restore to 4.1

You should have gotten one that already has been unlocked rather than risking to unlock with ipad bb.

yup should have done that in the first place. thanks for your help though..
So if a phone is bricked means even in the future like 6 months or so, it cannot be unlocked or usable at all?

If No imei or No baseband, it is permanently bricked. Are you still looking for a 3gs and unlocked ?

I have this one like new as i always buy two iphones when it comes out, just my style...haha. Old bootrom untethered and unlocked at IOS 5 with BB 05.11.07. From day one, this iphone has only be flashed of bb once to 3.1.2 and then all restore are with custom firmware which is good as the baseband is seldom flashed..

Message me if you are interested
