From emergency screen , run redsn0w, browse to stock 4.2.1, check install cydia only ,it will ask you to turn off > turn it off, then the next step is going into pwned dfu > do your count. After which it goes into jailbreaking for you .
Make sure itunes has detected your iphone prior to running redsn0w.
You don't trigger your own dfu, you use redsn0w to help youLast edited by iYeow; 10-29-2011 at 01:51 PM.

here is what i did
from emergency screen, i started up redsn0w and checked in cydia, then got to the screen where it said turn off your ipod and make sure it's plugged in. so i turned it off, then followed the steps and successfully got it into the DFU mode that it asked me to do.
however, i still get the ******* waiting for reboot..gah i'm so mad
any idea what to do? thanks for everything you've done so far btw

Did you do a complete restore before trying redsn0w again?

Since you are having trouble jailbreaking, you should do a complete restore, don't setup your iphone after restore, do the jailbreak first.
