Default Ihone 3g on 4.1 trouble unlocking

I recently bought an IPhone from a jailbreaking dealer, and somehow my camera stopped working. Guy told me to do a factory reset and it completely messed my phone up to where I only get a connect to itunes screen. I tried several programs to unlock it and I cannot get anything to work.. is there anyone who can help me? (by the way yes I do realize that title has typo. Iphone not Ihone.) Sorry guys.

iHone is the latest model j/k

ok, by "factory reset" you mean restore thru iTunes??
if you were on 4.1 before, restoring should not be a problem. try this M8:

    donwload iPhone 3g 4.1 ISPW
run iTunes and force iPhone into DFU mode (Hold Home and Power for 10 sec, then release power while holding Home for another 10 sec)
if you're on Windows, edit the "Hosts" file (run as admin) located in "windows/system32/drivers/etc
in there add the following at the end of the text 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
now in iTunes when you get to the Restore screen hold left shift key on your keyboard and click "Restore"
locate the downloaded file and let the procedure complete. may take up to 10 minutes

after all is restored connect to a WiFi hotspot and go to "jailbreakme.com" from Safari to install Cydia

hope this helps. if not, let us know whats going on

Well, I have it back up and running with Cydia, but now it is not reading my SIM card. Phone say "no service". I could not get my camera to work originally, and I clicked Erase Content and Settings.. this is where my problem originated from. So now my IPhone is running, but with no service, so I have no idea why it would be doing this.

(and we should make our own brand of phones and call them the IHone. lol)

did you unlock the SP?? if you're on ATT do not unlock it.
if you used ultrasn0w to unlock, uninstall it to regain service with ATT
only unlock the phone if you're using another carrier

other than this, i have no suggestions.... did the procedure above help you, or did you recover a different way??
please share what you did, this way others can learn from your experience

Your method worked really well. Once I was able to get it unlocked I was able to reinstall Cydia thru Safari browser on my phone. The only problem I have ran into is my phone not reading my SIM card. I would recommend your solution to other people as it was simple and easy to figure out. I did use ultrasn0w, but only because Im with a different carrier than ATT. Any further suggestions would help, but Im fairly sure my iphone is shot. Thank you very much tho for your help.

Ok, I have found the problem, and Im fairly sure it can be fixed. The modem firmware is 06.15.00 and it needs to be downgraded. I tried fuzzyband, it would not work. so if you can help with this I will be forever in your debt.

You can only downgrade your bb for 3g if you have a bootloader of 5.0.8, otherwise NO
