needed help with unlocking and JB

hello. I'm planning to buy a used iphone 3gs from ebay which is locked 2 ATT. I am from Sri Lanka, so i will have to unlock it to use in my country. how to unlock? i have some questions. PLEASE HELP

a. 1 of my friends unlocked his apple i phone 3G with some unlocking sim card. Can i do the same method with my 3GS?

b. I have read that i can unlock by redsnow or ultrasnow. But after that, cant i ever update to latest firmware? does the phone freeze? If i unlock by this method, after unlocking, can i simply delete this redsnow and get locked to ATT and then update to latest firmware using i tunes?

c I have heard there's method of factory unlocking, in which they send my imie number to apple and unlock officially so that i can update firmware from i tunes with no problem. can u suggest a good website for that? does it cost very much?

Don't know about a. or c. There are several threads here about unlocking using redsn0w/ultrasn0w which is free which you should read.

You *will* have to flash the ipad baseband and will lose some GPS abilities which should be made up for using WiFi. Sound good?

A. That is the Gevy SIM unlock. Check and see if the baseband if compatible.

B. If you use ultrasn0w to unlock (be sure that the baseband is compatible), then you'll have to wait for ultrasn0w to update before you can update your phone, but you can update.

C. Not possible yet, unless you go to an official AT&T store, after a plan, which you don't have.

And remember, never update through iTunes! Always use sn0wbreeze, or PwnageTool to make a modified IPSW that doesn't update the baseband! And if the baseband isn't compatible with Gevey or ultrasn0w, you will have to flash the baseband to 6.15.00 using redsn0w.

Also, remember, if you use sn0wbreeze, always press the "Hacktivate" option in Expert Mode, if you do not have an official AT&T SIM card.
