If you up dated the baseband at the same time as the firmware, that is, you didn't use a custom firmware, no, I don't think you can unlock it.

I thought you could jailbreak IOS 5 (tethered) and then unlock? Jailbreak iOS 5 iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch (HOW TO) I'm new to this as well.

I friend gave me (to try out) his 3GS phone that he has already upgraded to IOS 5. I want to jailbreak, unlock, and then use it on TMO. Can I not do this?

if you only used itunes to updated to IOS5 then you updated your bb also (5.16.05)
To answer my own question, I did some research and yes I still can unlock 3GS that updated to IOS5 and it associate firmware. First downgrade it to 4.1, then install ipad baseband (if you want to unlock) then reinstall IOS5 using snowbreeze and preserve that ipad baseband.

    YMark,
    use the instruction below.
