Help unlocking/updating from 4.0.1 to 4.2?

I have a 3gs on version 4.0.1. My modem firmware is 5.13.04.

When I connect my phone to iTunes, it wants to upgrade me to 4.2.

I want the latest features and updates, but I don't want to lose my untethered jailbreak/unlock.

How would I upgrade? Is there a way to upgrade without upgrading my baseband(modem firmware)? Would it matter if I upgraded to the latest baseband?

What program/files will I need once updating to jailbreak and unlock?

I'm on T-Mobile.

A custom firmware restore is necessary to preserve the baseband and unlock.
Pwnagetool and an Snowbreeze do that plus more.

In order to restore upgrade/downgrade, SHSH blobs for that firmware are needed.
Use Tiny Umbrella to find your available blobs.

4.3.3 is the latest fully jailbreakable iOS.

Okay. I'm sorry if I sound needy, but I haven't jailbreaked or unlocked in a long while. I can't seem to find a good guide/video that explains how to do this with a untethered unlock in my ssituation, which is what I'm mainly looking for.

Does 4.3.3 have an untethered unlock?

Where can I get the custom firmware?

I don't know anything about SHSH blobs. I downloaded TinyUmbrella and clicked "Save all SHSH's" for all devices. A folder was created with the following files:

Other than the ones created, I have no idea where any other blobs would be.

Pawnage (Mac) or Snowbreeze (PC) create the custom firmware. Easy as pie.
..... use expert mode, select activate if no authorized SIM available.
They also prepare the phone to accept it (pwnd-DFU mode)
The latest versions provide a full untethered jailbreak on both 4.2.1 and 4.3.3.

Tiny Umbrella + Start TSS Server must be running with no errors before iTunes.
Shift/click restore and select custom firmware with iTunes to restore cfw.

Install Ultrasnow (via Cydia) to unlock.

iClarified.com / tutorials has many guides for Pwnagetool.
Not many exist for Snowbreeze.

Both utilities are self-explanatory.

Run tiny umbrella as admin. Close skype. Shutdown all your firewalls and anti virus sw. Don't open iTunes tillyou have TU's server running.
