iPhone 3G - What do I can't get the baseband and firmware?
I found an iPhone 3G! yay
But it has a password on it.
I think the only way to get into the phone is to restore it but I think I need the firmware and baseband first.
Anyone have any ideas of how to go about this?
Thanks

but unless you have the SHSH blobs, you'll only be able to restore to what ever 3G ios itunes is currently signing. perhaps run tiny umbrella and you might be able to grab and save the current SHSH blobs. not sure if this can be done since you dont have the passwd.

The phone is disabled from too many passcode tries.
Is the newest firmware unlockable?

Put it into recovery mode and restore to 4.2.1 which is the last firmware Apple supports and signs. From here you can use redsn0w to flash the iPad baseband and unlock with ultrasn0w.

^^Yes. If you want a jb, use redsn0w 0.9.4. Unlock w/Ultrasn0w (if the baseband <= 5.13.x)
If you want 3.1.3, download both 3.1.2 & 3.1.3. iTunes restore to 3.1.3.
Redsn0w 0.9.4 (select 3.1.2 ipsw) to jailbreak, Unlock w/Ultrasn0wLast edited by Mes; 08-11-2011 at 05:45 PM. Reason: Update redsn0w version

Hey Mes, I tried to restore to 3.1.3 but I get the 1015 error which states that downgrading the firmware isn't supported.
Which is the next best firmware should I try next?

Don't give up. 3.1.3 will load.
The error indicates the baseband has a higher version number than the baseband in the firmware you restored to. Right after the error, use Tiny Umbrella's exit recovery.

if tinyumbrella doesn't work ireb works really good i have used numerous times on my iphone 3g including to jailbreak it on 4.1 and 4.2.1
if you do want to up date to 4.2.1 on it though which is what i am on. you have to restore it to 4.1 with baseband upgrade then upgrade to 4.2.1 and use redsn0w to jail break it but you need to use the 4.1 firmware to jailbreak it initially (tethered) then jailbreak it untethered with the 4.2.1 firmware

@zoltan .... No, not stock 4.1 !!!
No higher than 4.0.2 !! Stock 4.1 baseband can not be unlocked w/ultrasn0w.

Update!
So I've successfully installed 3.1.3 firmware and jailbroke it with Redsnow using the 3.1.2 ispw.
I tried using the ultrasn0w in cydia to unlock but it says it is unable with my phone. (baseband: 05.13.04)
So I tried using the blackra1n unlock. This unlock however puts my iPhone in a rebooting loop and doesn't start up correctly.
I've restored to stock 3.1.3 since the blackra1n unlock causes that problem.
Should I upgrade to 4.0 and try to unlock on that?Last edited by dopedon; 08-14-2011 at 09:18 PM.

Try Ultrasn0w again. It ..does... unlock 5.13.04

For T-Mobile, 3G must be set to off.
Settings / General / About / Modem Firmware.

I need a lil help, is the 3.1.3 redsnow cydia known to be slow or anything? It seems like it never finishes loading whenever it hits the "Loading Data" screen. The wheel just goes round and round lol

Yes, Cydia on a 3G can very slow especially the first/second time using it. But it will finish --- eventually.
On my 2G, I believe I waited 20 or 30 minutes to finally dismiss the first or second essential updates.
