activating iphoe 2g

i just bought an iphone 2g. restored and now its stuck on activation screen in itunes. i took the sim card from my iphone 4 and put it in iphone 2 no luck. i used other sim cards and get the same screen. I found 1 card that allows me to see the iphone 2g in itunes but when it syncs and does the backkup it pops up and says itunes cannot backup iphone. Have tried to right clickk and backkup, and ive tried to delete all other backups and still dont work. any help would be appreciated. thanks

thanks alot i actually tried to jailbreak before but i wasnt pointing it to the 3.1.2 firmware. I feel dumb now. I have tried for weeks to get this. and within 10mins its done.
