+1. I would really recommend finding an official carrier sim though. Its just always easier to do with an official carrier sim (less problems)

Even if the sim is not activated it will still work as long as it is official issue.

Did I mention using an official carrier sim works better then hacktivating

i done that redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc16 after using this with iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore phone does all this process as shown on website but after doing everything it goes into recovery mode permanently that is conect to itune screen and it does not come out of that screen no matter what i do after that
rest i tried djinni,ziphone,
also restoring with itunes 10.4 by using shift +restore to iPhone3,1_4.3.2_8H7_Restore or the oldest it can possibly pick with itune 10.4
maximum i could go untill so far after trying everything on internet and itunes is insert a valid sim screen on iphone
also i did not get what is SAM if am stuck on conect to itunes screen after redsnow

You can't use SAM if you can't access Cydia to install it. So what firmware are you on right now? That's quite important to know in order for redsn0w to work properly.

how can i check if the phone is not going any further than emergency call screen
i think its the latest of itunes 4.3.5 caz thats the only only one restore it completly .
rest everything i tried by pressing shift + restore in itunes gives error at the end that it cant be restored
also tried latest snowbreeze to hackactivate and restore it to 4.3.3 by itunes but gives error at the end
so dont know exactly what firmware i have
