Until you contact your friend all you can probably do is save your 4.3.3 shsh and fast. Download tinyumbrella (google) and then a 4.3.3 firmware from Firmware - Downloads - ModMyi Forums

Grab a 4.3.3 stock ipsw, open iTunes and hold shift, click restore. Select the 4.3.3 ipsw. iTunes will take it down to 4.3.3 successfully, and to find out if it is factory unlocked, put your SIM in now and see if iTunes will activate it. I'm thinking it is not factory unlocked seeing as how you said it shows SIM not supported. But hey, give it a whirl just to confirm. If it does turn out to be factor unlocked, you can just stick the SIM in and everything will work.
Anyhow, if/when you find out that it is not factory unlocked, download Redsn0w. Open it, browse to stock 4.3.3 ipsw, check the box for "Cydia" and continue. Follow the timer/instructions. You should be able to access your springboard at this point.
Your baseband is likely upgraded and not unlockable. Check the modem firmware (aka baseband) in Settings and see what it is. I don't know what bb comes with 4.3.4, but if it is not lower than 4.10.x then you can't even use a turboSIM to unlock.

I wonder if Apple stopped signing 4.3.3 yet.
Try building a custom 4.3.3 firmware with sn0wbreeze and restore to that. Be sure to use redsn0w to put device into pwned dfu mode before restoring to the custom fw.
This is the best way to avoid errors.
