Activating iPhone 4 from scratch

Hey guys,
ok so this is my situation: I bought a new iPhone 4 from the US (I'm currently outside of the US). I turned it on, and it tells me that i have to connect it to itunes, plus a pop up message saying: "No sim card installed, Insert a valid sim with no pin lock to activate iphone". and if i slide the arrow it is only for emergency calls, that means that I cannot access the menu. If i connect it to itunes it says that the sim is invalid or something.

What now?
(if it helps, i have the Gevey turbo sim and mmy sim card is cut.)
PS: Googling and Youtubing did not help!

You will need to activate it with an att sim card. Download redsn0w 0.9.6 rc18 from the dev team blog. Also download the firmware that it is currently on from Firmware - Downloads - ModMyi Forums jailbreak with that and you'll be on the springboard

one more thing, how can I know the firmware if i'm stuck at the emergency menu?

if you just bought it so within the past 2 weeks or so its probably on 4.3.3

What if I'm not sure, should I go through the process anyways and download the 4.3.3 firmware?

yeah also restore in itunes by putting the phone into dfu mode. hold the power and home button for 10 seconds then let go of the power button. Itunes should detect it
