3GS 4.2.1 ipad baseband and unlocked stuck in recovery mode
hello
I would need some advice.
I have a iphone 3GS firmware 4.2.1, old bootroom, jailbreaked with redsn0w 0.9.6b, with ipad baseband and unlocked with ultrasn0w.
For some reason it got stuck on recovery mode
I believe the phone had SHSH backup on cydia but I am not 100% sure.
Questions:
(1) how do I verify that the phone SHSH is on cydia without accessing the phone?
(2) how should I go about trying to fix the recovery mode issue while preserving the unlock?
thanks guys!

That's a bit tricky, but If you saved your SHSH Blobs then you already know that It's saved.(1) how do I verify that the phone SHSH is on cydia without accessing the phone?
Download and Run TinyUmbrella. You can try to use the EXIT RECOVERY method. If that didn't work, then go to Advanced and uncheck "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit"(2) how should I go about trying to fix the recovery mode issue while preserving the unlock?
Now, you need to create yourself a custom IPSW file because If you try to Restore to Stock, you will encounter the same Recovery Loop issue.
USE
sn0wbreeze - Windows
pwnageTool - Mac
If you already have a Custom IPSW file, you need to put your iPhone into a pwned DFU state to restore to Custom Firmware. You can do that by using a Software called iReb (Windows), not sure about Mac.
Then open up iTunes and Restore from your custom IPSW.

thanks
the thing is i jailbroke the phone for a friend a long time ago.
I asked him many times to make sure cydia was storing SHSH but he didn't and now we are not sure.
he already tried the Exit recovery with Tiny Umbrella and it didn't work
I'm on windows 7 64 bit
I will try and build the custom firmware as suggested
thanks
wish me luck because that's new to me

Cydia should be saving all SHSH Blobs. There are tools like iFaith or TinyUmbrella to take those SHSH Blobs and save them on your computer, just in case you decide to downgrade.
Don't forget to uncheck "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit" when your going to Restore from Custom Firmware.
If you need help again, reply back.

another question.
it seems that my friend, in the attempt to exit recovery mode tried several things, including restore on itunes without a custom firmware.
The recovery failed. 3/4 of the way.
Would this mean additional problems if I attempt to restore using the customer firmware, in your opinion?
is there something I should do or check first?
thanks

If you need to Restore to Custom Firmware, you need to put the iPhone in a pwned DFU state. If your iPhone is just plain blank, but iTunes shows up as "this device is in recovery mode", that means your phone is in a DFU loop and launching a Jailbreak tool like iReb would allow you to put It into a pwn dfu state.
As I mentioned "Don't forget to uncheck "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit" when your going to Restore from Custom Firmware."
