I bought my iphone 3gs from a friend last week and have no clue how to proceed . I want to unlock and jailbreak my iphone so it can work on my tmobile account, as I am not an att customer like my friend, who bought the phone from att.

my iphone is a 3gs, version 4.1, 5.14.02. So what can I do to unlock and jailbreak? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your baseband is not unlockable. If you want to unlock, then you have to update your baseband to ipad baseband which will break your GPS function.

by gps function do you mean i can't use google maps?

That is correct, it will not give you the exact location.

You are better off buying an iphone that has unlockable baseband or a factory unlock.

i don't think i'll need that. how do i go about upgrading to an ipad baseband on my iphone?

What firmware are you at now , 4.1 ?

Redsn0w RC6, choose option install cydia first, then run redsn0w again and choose ipad baseband.

Unlock with Ultrasn0w from Cydai after you have installed ipad baseband.

yes i do have a 4.1. how exactly do i get to redsn0w RC6? And will all this also jailbreak my phone?

Yes, run redsn0w and choose install cydia, then run redsn0w again and choose ipad baseband.
