I guess the guide works for people who don't want to use their phone for calling, it's still a great ipod.

the problem is your on 5.14 baseband and ultrasn0w doesnt work on that, youll need ipad baseband, but it kills gps

I thought there was a fix where you could go to bb 6.15 then downgrade to 5.13. Maybe that Modmyi guide should be modified to include this info.

ive never heard of the ipad baseband being downgraded.

Looks like you can downgrade from 6.15 to 5.13 only if your bootloader is a really rare one 5.08. Mine according to Fuzzyband is 5.09, so no good for me. As of may 23, 2011, Sherif-hasshim has managed to flash bb 6.15, but not downgrade to 5.13 yet. So it's still in the works I guess.

As of right now there is no way to downgrade from the ipad baseband once upgraded to it as stated in the Dev-Team Blog. They are currently working on a way to downgrade it but they are also working on a way to fix the gps problem as well as the NCK unlock for iphone 4 so they definitely have alot of projects they are working on.
The 5.8 bootloader was the original bootloader for the 3g. The 3gs uses a 6.4 bootloader.

I got to BB 5.14 by accident of noobery-- trying to jailbreak, failing and starting over. Big mistake. I didn't know at fisrt the difference xtween unlocked and unlocked. My phone"s unlocked, I just slide the thing over and go, I thought at first. I won't worry about the unlocking part. I stil don't get the difference between an unlocked fone and an unlocked fone, except that I'm screwed for getting cellular data now.

Im confused by this statement. The differences between an unlock with ultrasn0w and a factory unlock is the fact that you dont have to preserve your baseband to continue to use the unlock. Im hoping this is what you meant.

I'm confused too, lol! Ok so when I originally went to jailbreak the instructions I thought said something like, 'don't go to ver. 4.1 if you need your phone unlocked. Since my phone was unlocked, I didn't worry about upgrading to to 4.1 after my initial jailbreak failed and I needed to (or so I thought) at least get the phone to work again. But going to 4.1 gave me the 5.14 bb no? My phone is still unlocked and jailbroken, I can use cydia etc. I just can't get cell data and don't want to go to bb 6.15 and lose gps. I still get gps when on wifi, just can't use it on the road.

It's jailbroken but can only do factory unlock coz of the bb issue. As I'm understanding, maybe wrong, can't get cell data on a jailbroken fone without the ultrsn0w unlock. So the 5.14 has got me stuck 1/2 way through the process -- I think since last november it's been working this way. I'm just waiting for a breakthrough so I can one day get cell data.

access points. connect to wifi on your idevice then go to unlockit.co.nz and instal the o2 apn's profile

ultrasn0w is for people on the compatible baseband who dont have a factory unlocked iphone, and ipad bb is for people who dont have factory unlock and on incompatible baseband.
