Thread: unlock iPhone 3gs 4.1
06-10-2011, 05:55 AM #1unlock iPhone 3gs 4.1
I'm a sort o a genius ( 'cause otherwise I can't call myself ). The other night I couldn't sleep so I've decided to jailbreak & unlock my iPhone. So I've followed the steps of one of the many webpages out there and somehow I managed to install 'Cydia'.
Having installed Cydia I guess that the jailbreak went successfully, but somehow I can't Unlock it ( which is the most important part ). I've used ultrasn0w over and over again, nothing happened. It just loses the 'signal'.
The phone was bought on a contract in the UK almost two years ago. I've left the country and I kinda need my phone.
Here's a screenshot of 'Cydia' .
And the software version on it is 4.1.
I've just plugged in my phone and opened iTunes and it said something about 'An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?' - what should I do?!
Help would be lovely appreciated.

Ultrasnow will not work on the baseband/modem firmware that comes with 4.1.
You have 2 choices:
1: Update to the ipad baseband, but you will lose gps and there is no going back after.
2: (Preferred) Call the carrier that the phone is locked to and get them to officially unlock it for you.

@jimilee - 05.14.02
@Simon - no good news
1) what does that exactly mean? i won't be able to use any more apps like Google Maps ( just an example )?
2) that's not quite possible. we didn't break up in the best conditions, if you know what I mean

Yes, Thats right. But you should use redsnow 0.9.6r8 to do it so that it is untethered.
Basically Download redsnow 0.9.6rc8 and a copy of the 4.1 firmware for your device.
Open redsnow, point it to the 4.1 firmware.
Choose to install cydia and the ipad baseband. (If you already have cydia installed just choose the option to install the ipad baseband)
Follow instructions for entering DFU.

Thanks for the info, it was really helpful!
But, I've followed them as described, went through the process, but for some reason redsn0w stays at 'Uploading ramdisk' ( there are 5 bars loaded ). Also I've set administrator rights for redsn0w ( am running on windows 7 ), but nothing.
Basically the phone reboots, redsn0w is blocked and my baseband stays at 05.14.02.
( did this a few times )
Have you encounter this issue before?
