Default How to Update 4.0.1 to 4.2.x and jailbreak + unlock
    Guys,

I just got me a ip4, version 4.0.1, baseband 01.59.0 . is there any benefit to update to 4.2x and unlock again?

You need tinyumbrella for sure. Hmm you should also grab iFaith as well. For iFaith go to iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones and for tinyumbrella just search it in google and then click the first link. Then click save my shsh in tinyumbrella.

I did saved the SHSH to server already. I am using Mac pc so all I need is pwnager tool to create the customize iOS then use the itunes to restore rite ?
question is what is the different between 4.0.1 and 4.2.x any benefit if I update it? What is the latest version can be untethered jailbreak and unlock with ultrasn0w ?

Yeah, if you're using a Mac, it sounds like you have the right idea. Be sure when you click the Restore button to also hold down Option so that you can choose your new custom IPSW that Pwnage Tool made for you. You will also need your phone in DFU mode, but Pwnage Tool will walk you through that too.
Why 4.2.x? Just go right to 4.3.3. Latest version with untethered jailbreak and unlock with UltraSn0w is 4.3.3.

Make sure to keep the unlockable baseband!
If I helped you in any way, please click on the button!

Yes use pwnagetool and make a 4.3.3 firmware. Then restore with the custom firmware to retain the baseband.

4.3.3 untethered is stable? I heard there is some issue about the bar signals or somethings else

UltraSn0w is supposed to fix the signal bars issue, or so I've read.

help ... I got an error 1601. Do I need to run tiny umbrella when doing restore ?

Did you follow the procedure to get into DFU mode? Custom firmware has to be flashed with the phone in DFU mode (black screen), not regular restore mode.

have you had any problems since upgrading to 4.3.3? I have an iPhone 4.0 Baseband 1.59 running unlocked and jailbroken on iOS 4.0. I've been too chicken to upgrade to 4.3.3 on fears that something won't work and then I'll be screwed. You haven't had any problems?

As long as you use a custom firmware you will be fine.
